TransDigm Group is the public-market version of a private-equity aerospace roll-up, and the third fiscal quarter tests whether that machine still compounds when the aftermarket is strong, the original-equipment channel is finally ramping, and newly bought businesses are diluting the famous margin. Management raised full-year guidance after every major channel grew at a double-digit pace. Net sales reached $2,741 million. Organic growth supplied the larger share of the lift, with acquired product lines filling the rest. The equity debate is not whether the Cleveland designer of proprietary aircraft parts can grow. It is whether the market is right to treat the name as a late-cycle industrial while cash generation and bookings still look like mid-cycle compounding.
The operating story underneath the raise is the three-channel print the company has been waiting on since the pandemic recovery matured. Commercial aftermarket grew 17 percent, and the transport slice ran even faster. Commercial original-equipment revenue also grew 17 percent as Boeing and Airbus lifted build rates. Defense grew 11 percent and added backlog that extends into the next fiscal year. Defined earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization still expanded in cash terms even as the margin fell by more than a point and a half, because Jet Parts Engineering, Victor Sierra, and Simmonds Precision sit below the legacy mix. That is acquisition math, not franchise decay, so long as the base units keep widening their own margins the way management claims.
Cash still funds the model. Quarterly free cash flow, defined internally as defined EBITDA less cash interest, capital spending, and cash taxes, was about $870 million. Share repurchases in the quarter ran about $1,000 million. After the Department of Justice signaled a challenge, TransDigm walked away from Stellant Systems and signed Prince and Izant instead. The next several quarters resolve whether aftermarket growth stays in the low double digits, whether acquisition dilution fades as those units are put through the operating system, and whether another antitrust block appears before the remaining deal capacity is spent.
