Stevanato Group (STVN): Mix Shift Pays for a Still Hungry Plant Cycle

Stevanato Group spent the second quarter proving that the mix shift into premium syringes and ready-to-use containers is no longer a slide-deck story. High-value solutions grew 16% and now approach half of group sales, which is why adjusted earnings expanded even as reported profit fell on the California disposal. The family-controlled Italian issuer is using that mix to justify a still-heavy build in Indiana and Latina. The investment debate is whether those plants start throwing off cash before the multiple, already well above diversified packaging peers, loses patience.

The Balda C. Brewer sale closed at mid-year and crystallized a $14 million loss on a unit that was only expected to contribute about $35 million of full-year revenue. That is a small revenue hit and a larger statement: Franco Stevanato is walking away from low-complexity contract manufacturing to concentrate on intellectual-property devices. Adjusted EBITDA still rose to about $91 million, a 26% margin. Free cash flow stayed negative because plant spending continues to outrun operating cash. The market is being asked to underwrite a year of thin cash conversion in exchange for a cleaner, higher-mix franchise.

Second-quarter revenue reached about $347 million. Biologics-related high-value work grew much faster than the group, and incretin products already contribute a bit more than a fifth of sales. Full-year guidance now sits near $1.45 billion to $1.47 billion after folding in the disposal, a milder currency drag, and slightly better organic growth. Shares closed just under $22 on the publication date, implying a mid-teens multiple on this year's guided adjusted EBITDA. Does Fishers reach commercial device output on the late-year timetable, and does the high-value mix keep climbing toward the high-forties share management has already baked into the year?
