Radiant Logistics (RLGT): Cycle Turn Meets an Unlevered Agent Platform

Radiant Logistics is a non-asset freight forwarder and broker that spent a long freight recession stacking technology and unused borrowing power, and the June quarter is the first print that looks like a cycle turn rather than another defensive holding action. Founder Bohn Crain framed the acceleration as broad, led by United States forwarding and international airfreight, while still calling the domestic recovery early and only partly visible in the numbers. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, the cash-earnings proxy management uses to run the network, rose to $10 million. That is the first clean evidence the platform can convert a firmer tape into operating leverage rather than merely defending share.

The tension is that the full year still tells the opposite story. Full-year adjusted cash earnings declined even after the late surge, and a First Brands credit-loss charge makes the underlying year softer still. Organic growth in the June quarter ran near 8 percent, helped by typhoon-relief airfreight in the Western Pacific and by customs work tied to a more complex tariff regime. Spot rates and tender rejections firmed only late in the period, so the domestic brokerage recovery remains more a management claim than a fully earned run rate. A reader who stops at the quarter headline misses that mix.

The next several quarters resolve whether domestic truck brokerage and the new Radiant Road and Rail agent program can carry the print after storm-related airfreight fades. The balance sheet entered the new fiscal year with no net debt after an amended $200 million credit line. That facility now runs into 2031. The market is already paying a mid-cycle multiple on a year of compressed cash earnings. The open question is whether the September quarter confirms a durable freight recovery or whether the June beat fades once emergency airfreight and a one-time tax benefit roll off.
