QuantumScape is still a pre-revenue ceramic-separator company whose public-market story just collided with a partner reset. The latest reported quarter ended June 30, 2026. Honda signed a multiyear development pact, the San Jose Eagle Line is shipping more sample cells, and first-half customer billings already topped last year's full total. Those are real commercial steps. They do not yet convert the equity from a development option into a licensed industrial franchise.
The PowerCo amendment is the quarter's real argument. Volkswagen's battery unit cut the development-program ceiling to $75 million. The prior ceiling was $131 million, inclusive of amounts already paid, and remaining inflows now sit on milestone deliverables rather than open cost share. Management frames the cash effect as neutral because project spend falls with the narrower scope. The separate royalty prepayment of $130 million stays attached to an unexecuted intellectual-property license. The market treated the smaller ceiling as evidence that industrialization is being re-papered rather than accelerated.
GAAP operating loss still sits near $106 million for the quarter against $859 million of liquidity. Adjusted EBITDA loss of $64 million tracked the reiterated full-year band. That band remains $250 million to $275 million. Capital-spending guidance was cut. The open question is whether Eagle Line output, Honda conversion, and a still-unsigned PowerCo license can turn a cash pile into a royalty stream before the next equity raise.
