PAR Technology (PAR): Platform Scale Confronts a Skeptical Market

PAR Technology spent the last half-decade buying the pieces of a restaurant operating system, and the June quarter is the first print that looks like the stack can fund itself. Point-of-sale, loyalty, digital ordering, and payments now sell together often enough that management stopped splitting the clouds in the scorecard. Chief executive Savneet Singh framed the result as a starting shot in a skeptical market after a year in which the multiple collapsed. The debate is no longer whether the company can assemble products. It is whether recurring software, not a hardware refresh, is what is starting to drop to the bottom line.

The cost reset is real, and so is the remaining GAAP hole. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization reached $14 million. That was the sixth straight sequential increase and it cleared the company's own outlook even after backing out a one-off hardware project. Annual recurring revenue climbed to $338 million. Organic growth inside that figure stayed in the low teens, and subscription margin slipped after a full quarter of the Bridg identity-resolution assets bought from Cardlytics. Cash finished near $77 million against a convertible stack whose principal still exceeds $400 million. McDonald's remains large enough that a pause in that relationship would rewrite the model.

The equity now trades as if the software story failed, even as the operating scorecard is finally bending. Shares sit in the mid-teens after a slide from last year's peak above $40, which prices the franchise closer to a hardware vendor than to Toast-like restaurant software. Second-half deployments at Burger King and Papa Johns, plus paid attach on PAR Intelligence, are the observables that decide whether organic recurring growth re-accelerates. If those rollouts slip and hardware simply normalizes, the beat fades and the cheap multiple stays cheap for a reason.
