Pan American Silver (PAAS): Silver Cash Engine Meets Gold Cost Drag

Pan American Silver is converting a high silver-price tape and a first full stretch of Juanicipio ownership into cash returns, while the gold half of the portfolio is the part that is slipping. The MAG Silver purchase closed in September 2025 and added a forty four percent stake in the Fresnillo-operated Juanicipio mine in Zacatecas. That stake is why silver output is running at the high end of the quarterly range. It is also why attributable free cash flow, the ownership-share cash left after sustaining capital, still printed in the mid hundreds of millions even after a heavy tax settlement. The debate is not whether the company can generate cash at current metal prices. The debate is whether that cash is a silver-franchise result that compounds through buybacks, or a price-cycle windfall that gold-cost inflation and tax leakage are already eating.

The latest reported period ended June 30, 2026. Consolidated revenue rose to $1124 million. Net earnings rose to $305 million. Attributable silver production reached 6469 thousand ounces and sat at the high end of the company's quarterly outlook. Gold production of 166 thousand ounces missed that same outlook. Silver-segment all-in sustaining costs, the full cost of producing an ounce after by-product credits, printed just under $18. Gold-segment costs printed near $1984. The gold miss is the tell that the cash engine is not a uniform operating story.

Management still holds the full-year silver and gold production ranges published in February. Gold is now steered toward the low end of a 700 to 750 thousand ounce band. Gold costs are steered toward the high end of the guided cost band. Shareholder returns in the quarter hit a record $300 million through dividends and buybacks. The company has already cancelled about seven million shares this year under the Canadian issuer bid. The question the next several quarters resolve is whether Juanicipio cash and silver-segment discipline can fund both the return framework and the Skarn decline while gold recovers in the back half.
