On Holding just told the market that brand heat is not the same thing as wholesale volume. After founders David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti took back the chief-executive seats in May, new finance chief Frank Sluis used his first print to throttle sell-in into a promotional Americas trade rather than defend the prior growth rate. Direct channels and Asia still compounded. Everyday running in wholesale did not. The August result is a quality-over-quantity decision, not a sudden loss of cultural relevance.
Constant-currency sales still rose about 22 percent. Reported sales grew more slowly under a strong Swiss franc. Gross margin cleared 65 percent even after absorbing higher United States import tariffs. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization held near 20 percent of sales. Management then cut full-year constant-currency growth from a floor of 23 percent. The new range sits in the low-20 area. The gross-margin floor moved up at the same time. The share price treated the guide as a break in the story. Shares now sit just above the 52-week low.
The investment debate is whether the wholesale pause is a clean runway for LightSpray, SURREAL foam, and the next Cloudsurfer, or the first hard evidence that On's core running franchises are losing sell-through in the region that still supplies most of the revenue. The next several quarters resolve that distinction in the order book, not in the brand campaign. Four variables decide the case: direct-channel mix and full-price integrity, Americas wholesale sell-through, conversion of the new foam and spray platform into commercial franchises, and whether Asia stays large enough to offset a slower Americas trade.
