First-half net income reached $10 million even as the consumer ticket shrank. The operating story is a margin-first retreat from a quiet PC cycle. The profitability print is less clean than the headline. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, the cash-earnings proxy management uses, actually faded in the second quarter even as reported income flipped positive, because last year's stock-based compensation was much heavier. Average order value excluding gift cards fell to $401 from $506, which is the consumer telling the platform to buy smaller baskets. Wholesale and Newegg Business demand filled part of the volume hole. Gross margin still expanded, which is the only reason the income statement holds together.
Management already told the market to expect a smaller year. April guidance put full-year sales in a band that the first-half run-rate only fills at the low end, while the same guide assumed net income that the first half has already nearly matched. Cash ended June at $82 million after the company pre-bought constrained memory. Credit lines with East West Bank were stretched ninety days through late November so a renewal can be negotiated. The question the next two quarters resolve is whether holiday hardware demand and a clean facility renewal arrive before the pledged control block starts clearing into a thin public float.
