Strategy Inc is no longer a software vendor that happens to own bitcoin. It is a bitcoin treasury that now funds itself with perpetual preferred stock and has formally authorized sales of the coins that once defined the brand. The June quarter closed the never-sell era. Management created a bitcoin monetization program and used sale proceeds to cover preferred dividends. Common equity is now the residual claim after convertible notes and a growing preferred stack. The investment debate is whether that residual still amplifies bitcoin or merely tracks it after a costly credit layer.
The income statement is a bitcoin tape. An unrealized markdown of $8.32 billion on the treasury produced the quarter's entire operating loss. Net loss landed at $8.22 billion. Software revenue still grew, but that operating stub is a rounding error against the mark. Holdings rose even as the tape fell, because the company kept issuing common stock and preferred paper. Bitcoin per share still edged higher. The tension is that accretion now arrives with a cash coupon the software franchise cannot cover.
Class A shares last traded near $154, against a fifty-two-week range from the low eighties to the mid three-hundreds. Market value sits near $61 billion. Spot bitcoin has recovered toward the low eighties of thousands, which puts the stack back above cost after a mid-year stretch underwater. The question for the next several quarters is whether bitcoin per share keeps compounding once preferred coupons and coin sales are netted, or whether the common becomes a slower and more expensive wrapper around a coin that spot funds already hold.
