Acushnet Holdings (GOLF): The Premium Ball Monopoly and the Tariff Windfall

Acushnet Holdings trades on the conviction that the Pro V1 ball and the Titleist club franchise generate pricing power that outlasts macro cycles, and the second quarter print tested that thesis under a set of tailwinds that are not expected to recur at the same intensity. The stock sits at 85.16 per share, a level that embeds a meaningful portion of the tariff benefit but leaves room for the organic growth story to play out.

The most important recent development is the roughly 38 million IEEPA tariff refund that flowed through Q2 adjusted EBITDA, a one-time windfall that lifted the quarter to 208.6 million and made the underlying organic growth rate harder to isolate. The refund arrived because the Supreme Court invalidated the tariff authority Acushnet had been paying under, converting a prior cost line into a current-period gain. This event distorts every forward model that uses the second quarter as a base, and it raises a practical question about how much of the full-year guidance is tariff tailwind versus operating leverage.

The market has partially discounted the refund, but the discount is not complete. The remaining question is whether the ex-tariff business can sustain a high-20s percent EBITDA margin on a 2.6 billion revenue base. If the answer is yes, the multiple re-rates. If the answer is no, the stock has further to fall toward the 52-week low of 73.09. The tension between these two scenarios defines the risk-reward at the current price.

The catalyst to watch is the Q3 2026 report in November, which should show whether the GTS driver launch momentum and the Pro V1 pricing power hold after the tariff headwind in the prior year normalizes. The August 6 current report confirmed the updated full-year guidance, and the conference call transcript should clarify management's own decomposition of the IEEPA benefit from organic growth. The timing of the next print is the single most important date on the calendar for this thesis.
