Diodes Inc. (DIOD): Analog Power Leadership Extends into AI Compute

Diodes Inc. delivered a quarter that reframes the investment case around a structural shift in end-market mix. Revenue grew 21.7 percent year over year in the June quarter, but the composition tells a more important story: computing, anchored by artificial intelligence server and data center demand, rose to 28 percent of product revenue from 26 percent a year earlier, while automotive climbed to 21 percent from 19 percent. The legacy communications segment slipped to 11 percent from 14 percent. Gross margin expanded 160 basis points to 33.1 percent despite a 2.5 percent decline in weighted-average selling price, as volume surged nearly 25 percent and operating leverage pulled operating expense down 330 basis points as a share of sales. The company generated $132.8 million of operating cash flow in the first half, lifted the cash pile to $432 million, and subsequently announced a $325 million zero-coupon convertible note offering due 2031 to fund the ATX Semiconductor joint venture and general corporate purposes.

The investment thesis rests on three variables. First, AI server attach rate: Diodes' portfolio of hot-swap controllers, power protection, and timing solutions is becoming standard content in high-density GPU platforms, and the revenue trajectory suggests content per server is rising faster than unit shipments. The central metric is computing revenue growth relative to the merchant power supply market, and the market signal is the 21.9 percent first-half revenue increase against a flattish industry backdrop. Second, automotive content per vehicle: the shift toward zonal architectures and 48-volt systems plays to Diodes' strength in Schottky rectifiers, MOSFETs, and EMI protection, with the automotive revenue share gain to 21 percent signaling design-win conversion. Third, gross margin durability: the 160 basis point year-over-year improvement arrived while pricing declined, implying mix enrichment and manufacturing efficiency are offsetting semiconductor deflation. The market signal is the 32.5 percent first-half gross margin, a level not sustained since the 2022 peak.

Binary market implications center on the compute cycle. Confirmation arrives if computing revenue sustains above 27 percent of mix through calendar 2026 and gross margin holds above 32 percent, which would support a re-rating toward 18 times forward earnings from the current 14 times. The thesis breaks if computing reverts toward 24 percent, automotive design wins stall at the 20 percent revenue share ceiling, or the ATX joint venture integration absorbs disproportionate management bandwidth and capital, in which case the multiple compresses toward 11 times.
